Week 622-623 - Favorite Photos #22 South to Alaska - 06-22-2018
Favorite Photos #22 South to Alaska
In the four months we spent in Canada and Alaska, we took over 8,000 snapshots.

We're professional travel writers, but not professional photographers, we're
snapshot artists.

These snapshots were taken on Hwy 2 from Whitehorse, Yukon to Skagway, Alaska.

The trip from Whitehorse to Skagway is only 176 kilometers (109 miles).

Normally a 20 photo travelogue might span several weeks to capture that many outstanding photos.

But these 23 photos were taken within a 32 hour time span. We have 50 more we could show you.

People always ask "What's the favorite place you're been to?". The answer is "The people. But if we must pick a geographically area, it is Alaska and our travels through Canada to get there."

These photos show you why you must go to Alaska in your RV.

13 of these photos were taken out the front window of the MotherShip. There is no bigger or better "window to the world" than the 4 by 8 foot front glass of a motorhome.

We say that "every photo in Alaska could be a postcard. . .

. . . or a picture puzzle.

The Alaskan boundary is just over halfway from Whitehorse. Tell us if you have seen a nicer sign and scenery entering a state.

The beauty continues on the way to Skagway.

Coming out of the snow as we drop elevation from 2,600 feet at the border to 33 feet in Skagway.

Winter population of Skagway is about 900. During the summer, extra workers double that number.

Skagway is a tourist trap with fully restored or newly built structures. However, we loved it!
In a future travelogue we'll show Dawson City, Yukon with original buildings that have been maintained over
the last 150 years.

The White Pass Railway snow plow train.

In our two days at Skagway, three cruise ships docked, increasing the town population by 6,000 folks!

Wouldn't this make a great picture puzzle cover?

Just another 4,000 passengers.

And more!

The White Pass Train backs right up the cruise ship dock.

This sign in the local tourist shop isn't that funny!

Stay in touch as the photos coming in the next few weeks are just as incredible.
With love, Pete, Ellen and Mandy
