Week 77 - Aguanga CA - 02-03-2008

Winter Welcome from Aguanga (pronounced A-wan-ga),

We rarely get reservations at RV parks.  Most parks do not live up to the pictures or descriptions on the web.  And we have only been to one in College Park, Maryland, that would give a refund on unused days. With that in mind, we came to Jojoba Hills RV Park in Aguanga, CA and paid for last Friday through Sunday.

On Friday we toured the park and met a few folks.  On Saturday morning we paid for 11 more days!  Our longest stay in the last 2 years was 8 days.  But this place is great!  It has everything, the people are super friendly and the weather has been good.

Many mornings we play Pickle Ball.  It is game played with oversized ping pong paddles, a wiffle ball on a  20 by 44 foot court.  It is a great sport, just like tennis, only you can actually do it!  We first heard about and played it in September 2006 in Arkansas.  But the game has been around since 1965.  Here is the court.

The terrain here is high desert (1920 foot elevation) and Weather.com shows that the average temperatures are within 2 degrees of Atascadero weather for every month of the year.  The town of Aguanga has a post office and a store.  Temecula with all the big name stores is just 17 miles to the West.

We only had two days of rain but we had great clouds.

This daytime view shows a few of the 283 RV sites and the Friendship Hall.  In the valley in the distance is the Rancho California RV Resort, which is $60/night.  Jojoba Hills is only $20/night and we like the facilities better. For $23,000.00 (02-2009) you can buy into the Jojoba Hills Co-op and stay year round for $221/month (02-2009) plus electricity.  However, there are 144 families on the waiting list.  If you do buy in, you can return your share at any time and get your $23,000.00 (02-2009) refunded.

The park has three professional billiard tables.  We played several evenings but never saw anyone else use them.

We will stay here until Saturday and then head to Hemet, CA, about 30 miles away.  Then we will meet up with our RV friends, Sheryl and Ed somewhere in the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs area).

While we praise the Lord for all the rain here in California, we are sure that you join us in looking forward to a drier and warmer week.  Have a great one.

Love, Pete and Ellen
